Willie Weeks Day: Mural Unveiling & Dedication

June 5 @ 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm

Free

Join us for Willie Weeks Day in the Town of Salemburg as we proudly unveil and dedicate a mural honoring legendary bass guitarist and Salemburg native, Willie Weeks. The celebration takes place on June 5, 2025, from 5:30–7:30 PM at the Strickland Building (112 N. Main Street, Salemburg, NC). Recognized for his work with music greats like Vince Gill, Eric Clapton, and The Rolling Stones, Weeks’ influence spans generations—earning praise from George Harrison, who once said, “I’d rather have Willie Weeks on bass than Paul McCartney.” Attendees will have the opportunity to meet Willie Weeks and muralist Scott Nurkin, while enjoying hors d’oeuvres and musical entertainment. Special thanks to Philip Macias for allowing us to use his photo of Willie Weeks in our promotional materials.

This event is made possible through a partnership between the Town of Salemburg and the Sampson Arts Council. In addition, this project was supported by the North Carolina Arts Council, a division of the Department of Natural and Cultural Resources.
