The Cycle North Carolina Mountains to Coast Ride is an annual seven-day, fully supported bicycle tour that allows avid cyclists to explore the state in a unique way by traveling along the scenic back roads as they make their way from the mountains to the coast. This ride showcases many of North Carolina’s small towns, including Clinton!
As we have in years past, we will be greeting and cheering on our visiting cyclists with some true Sampson County southern hospitality! Check out the 2020 promotional video below. At about 8:48 minutes in, see Sampson County’s Tourism Development Authority Executive Director, Sheila Barefoot’s, Welcome Message to both the cyclists participating and anyone who’d like to join in the fun when the cyclists arrive in Clinton at the Expo Center.
UPDATE: The event has been postponed to the Fall of 2021, so stay tuned for more information about an evening of fun, food, vendors, and music!
Many towns throughout North Carolina will be rolling out the red carpet, but in Clinton’s case, we will be inviting the cyclists to Follow the Yellow Brick Road with a “Wizard of Oz” Theme. This theme has become a fun tradition for Sampson County as it was used in past years as the Cycle NC Mountains to Coast ride made it’s way through the Town of Roseboro back in 2018 and for the first time in the city of Clinton back in 2016.
This is the first year that Sampson County has been officially selected as an overnight stop, with many of the cyclists staying in our hotels in Clinton. Back in 2018, an overnight stay was scheduled in Elizabethtown for that year’s ride, but changed due to Hurricane Florence. Sampson County’s CVB Executive Director, Sheila Barefoot, assisted Cycle NC with lodging in Sampson County. She knew they’d love it and want to come back to Sampson County!

When the cyclists arrive in 2021, they will have a chance to see the beautiful barn quilts along Sampson County’s Barn Quilt Trail and will be greeted by the Wizard of Oz Crew as they arrive at the Sampson Agri-Expo Center. The public is invited to come out to meet and greet the cyclists and enjoy some great food, shopping vendors, and live music by Band of Oz!
In addition to the fun planned at the Expo Center, our guests staying in Clinton will be encouraged to enjoy dining at our great local restaurants, stop in our shops, as well as experience some Eastern North Carolina history at the amazing Sampson County History Museum Village.
We are excited and invite you to come out and enjoy a great time in the Fall of 2021! Be sure to visit our Event Page for up-to-date details as the date gets closer. We’ll see you in October of 2021!
